There are lots of jokes and artwork like this one, drawing attention at how the others are making a huge deal out of losing their 'extras'. Ranging from hurt, confused, or amused like this one.
I still think there is more to that. Earth pony gifts are much more subtle in their nature than those of a pegasus or unicorn... I mean, flight! Spellcasting with a thought! What do they have? Well, Earth ponies have a LOT of strength, for starters.
I bet that Discord DID take away their abilities as well, but since AJ and Pinkie are already very energetic and strong from all of their activity, there wouldn't be any noticeable difference for the most part, but either pushing themselves to the limit or the long run would reveal that there were changes.
Of course, the 'game' ended pretty soon, before any situations that could reveal their losses happened.
